Taking Time Off is a Crucial component of Business Strategy to Growing Your Business

It’s summertime and with it comes lots of time away from the office and even, away from your business entirely. I know as a business owner myself that this can seem impossible to do. But your business needs you to take a break!
I’m here to make the case that it’s important for YOU as a business owner to take time out of your business…for a vacation, a project, a personal pursuit…whatever the case may be. And that this is equally important for each and every one of your team members, too.
WHY?
Because, as they say, the show must go on! And you won’t know what doesn’t work without you or that key player until you (or that team member) are not there!
Time Away Can Reveal Operational Issues
Here’s what I mean.
Time away illuminates the vulnerabilities inside your business’s processes and systems. You learn what holes you have or how the business may be too reliant on your physical presence to continue operating smoothly.
This opportunity for illumination extends to your key employees, too. When a key player is not around, you may realize that they have singular knowledge about certain processes. They take a vacation or extended leave and suddenly a particular part of your operation is stalled completely. This can be not only incredibly inconvenient, but it can be costly or even catastrophic.
One of the most direct and surefire ways to expose problems in your operations is to leave. Encourage your key employees to take time off. It’s not just for everyone’s well-being, which is obviously one important aspect of time away from work. It’s for the well-being and sustainability of your business, too.
Time Away is a Gift to Your Business
When was the last time you came up with a breakthrough idea while sitting at your desk toiling away? If you are like me, that rarely, if ever, happens. Sitting at my desk is great for getting work done, but coming up with innovative solutions or new ideas? No. But, put me on a ski slope with an expanse of white in front of my ski tips, or a green forest with a canopy of leaves above me? My brain starts popping. Sure, many of those thoughts are about the beauty around me and how lucky I am to be spending time with my wonderful family. But, it never fails that I come up with at least one or two ideas on how I can improve KBS CFO operational efficiency and provide better services to our clients.
There is simply nothing like time away from your desk to inspire new and different thinking around your business.
Time Away Reinforces a Positive Company Culture
I want my clients to work with people that want to work for KBS CFO. That means that company culture really means a lot to me. I bet you feel the same.
When I disconnect from work and step away from my desk, I give the rest of my team permission to do the same. So many companies create work cultures that don’t value time away. But, I am convinced that the places that people love working embrace time away to rest and recharge.
When is the last time you stepped away from your business or encouraged employees to do so? Did it shine any light on things that need to be covered no matter who is available on a particular day? Taking it one step further, do you want to know what vulnerabilities exist before you book that big trip?
KBS CFO can help. Contact us here today and let’s sit down and talk about what you may not be able to see for yourself.
